Inside Christie's Home

The Drawing Room - Mark Passmore

Fans can visit the Summer home of Agatha Christie in Devon and view some of the collections belonging to Agatha Christie and her family.  For those of you who aren't able to visit, we thought we'd show you some photos of the inside of the house.

The Drawing Room is where Agatha Christie spent summer evenings with her family.  She would read aloud from her latest novel, to be published in time for the coming Christmas, while the family tried to guess who the murderer was.  Invariably her husband Max guessed correctly though few others did!  In this photo you can see the piano which Christie played.  She was an accomplished pianist, having learnt as a young girl, though she was painfully shy and wouldn't perform in public.

The Library - Mark Passmore

The Library is one of the most beautiful rooms in the house.  In it fans can see a beautiful mural painted around the ceiling.  During the war the house was requisitioned and used as a base for American soldiers.  One of them painted a mural of their journey from America to Devon.  When the war was over and the family returned to Greenway, they offered to paint over it but Christie refused.
