Dr Rosen is found dead and the four members of his household claim to have heard nothing. None of them has an alibi. Is this crime the act of a secret organisation? From The Thirteen Problems.

More about this story

Dr Rosen, instrumental in the downfall of a secret German organisation, is found dead at the bottom of his staircase. The four members of his household all claimed to be out, but had no alibis. It's up to Miss Marple to solve the case, drawing on knowleged from her childhood and of course, her garden.

Christie was fond of tackling espionage as a theme, sometimes, as in this story and The Secret Adversary, very successfully and at other times, such as Passenger to Frankfurt the results proved less popular. This story was included in the collection The Thirteen Problems, Miss Marple's first short story collection.

It has never been adapted.
