The Mystery Man is back! And more devious than ever...
The Mystery Man (who could also be a woman, it's a mystery after all) has kidnapped eight characters from the stories of Agatha Christie. Trouble is, we don't know who he's kidnapped!
In an email to the official Christie Community, the Mystery Man has revealed that beginning Thursday, July 7th 2011, he will allow one character per week the chance to speak.
And this is the place to put your theories and ideas to the Christie community, or just to browse to catch-up on all the latest events should you not want to use Twitter to follow the game.

Finally!
got it
That was difficult but with a little let from you lot we got there thanks.
Thank you everyone for the hints! This one was difficult.
Achille_PoirotI think this victim is from a Miss Marple novel, but I'm not sure...
This novel is not a Marple story. Some of Christie's other beloved detectives are m.i.a. in this one as well...
I think this victim is from a Miss Marple novel, but I'm not sure...
The whole Name of the novel is mentioned now... Just Look for the two Most written words ( of course nothing like I or and etc) and then Look through such a List. I'm sure you'll find it. Regards ^•^
nzfriendI still can't get this one. This is getting embarrassing...
Because this character is UNKNOWN to you, maybe it would help to just look through a list of Christie's novels. Maybe something will just click. Good Luck!
I still can't get this one. This is getting embarrassing...
FINALLY! I GOT IT!
But I was right, I didn´t read the novel. So it was just with luck and your clues. Thanks everybody!
Hmmm, thanks for help, InspectorGrant, but I am afraid that I didn't read this book. It doesn't sound familiar.
Keep looking, and you are bound to get to your destination. Also have a good look at this forum - there are a lot of clues.
Check EVERY person once you reach the right book and have arrived at your destination. This character is not a major one in this novel, but she is a German endocrinologist who is in search of allies for her ideological cause. This may give you an idea of the sort of novel this is.
Good luck.
I thought I found the right book, but I can't find the person.
Probably it isn't the right one!
Hooray! Got it! I really want to win those books :)
Well, that's just great! Now I have to read this book, and I have an exam to study for.
Thank you for the hints everybody, without them I would not have found the victim.
I have it!!!!!
At last I found it! Nikolas and the last clue made it much easier!
4th and final clue!
Victim 5 - I am a German endocrinologist. #agathachristiegame http://goo.gl/wdAS0
This should really narrow it down, I think only one character fits this last clue... If you've read the book in question, you should be fine. However, if you're having trouble you may want to double-check the name's spelling on an English-language internet resource– some translations may have changed it, so you should watch out for that...
i had a feeling which book it was, but i couldn't look until today as i been away from home, I read the book once but a long time ago
I found the yesterday, after being totally clueless. The clues didn't tell me much at all at first, looked in many different places but was totally wrong. Now that I found it I suddenly understand some clues, and the funniest clue I found was one about a birthday... That made me sure I finally found the right novel! Got to continue reading it now before the next victim speaks...
Yesssssssss!
. Found the victim. A big thanks to LauraPoirot, Nikolas and Inspector Grant. Its true, "UNKNOWN" is the right word. Also, type every character in the book. I know I am copying but it really works. The journey to find The Mystery Man is going good. Cant wait for Victim 6 on Thursday. Victim 5 is.....
OOPS.
WOW I finally found this one, but I really had to work for it. I did read this, but it was many decades ago. Thanks to all who have been helping us on the forum.
Yes! I have found that character! I havn't read the novel and that is why it took me so much time. But fianlly I done it! I want (and fell I have) to thank all of you (and mainly LauraPoirot,GKC,Nikolas and very much to inspectorGrant whose clue helped fianlly to trace the novel).
CyndyJI have read all Agatha Christie's books many times but am completely stumped by Victim 5. The tips so far in the forum have not helped me. Can anyone give me a further clue please?
It's hard to know how to help any more, CyndyJ - look closely at the messages on this forum - it is bristling with hints - even the title of the novel is partially mentioned in one of the later messages (and you know who you are!). Possibly you have not read this novel, but have a look at the titles of Dame Agatha's novels and remember that the character is not the main one in the story so check them all.
Good luck! Happy hunting
!
I think I'm the only one who havn't found that victim, I still don't know what to do
I have read all Agatha Christie's books many times but am completely stumped by Victim 5. The tips so far in the forum have not helped me. Can anyone give me a further clue please?
Got it at last! I am really happy as I have discovered the identities of all the victims so fari
GOT IT!!!!
Finally got it !
I agree that it was rather strange to chose a character who exists in that novel as it is almost "unknown" to many christie funs
.
AgathasmykidWOW! Finally got it...lol...I had even tried some of the characters from that book however as others have said, make sure you consider all characters no matter how significant, or insignificant they maybe.
Now that I am finished this long search I am off to celebrate my mother's birthday. She turned 57 today however I always forget what year it is she was born....
That will be fun, Agathasmykid. Are you going to fly - by aeroplane?? Hope you know where you are going!
İt drives me crazy!I have read all the posts ,and i got very very confused! The clues must be useful, but i couldn't understand them?Help me please...
I got it! I got it!! Finally!! lol
phew got it.. i knew i had the right book but thanks to Agathasmykid i persevered until i found it.
nikolasPlease accept my apologies, Mr_West. I was not trying to be sarcastic. I do insist though that you should attend that party...
Laughinbrunette, I am sorry you got lost. But this can happen if you have not read the novel, which means you do not know where you 're going...
(If I get a bump on the head it will be all your fault! lol
)
Mr._West, Nikolas was trying to help you :)
Got Victim #5! Very tricky... Thanks for the hints, everyone. :)
Oh god, I finally found it. Guess I was lucky... I haven't read the book sadly so it took me this long. :( Good 'unofficial' clues btw, those helped me find her. :)
Made it. You know, there is always a way, although sometimes you do not know where you're going. Just follow your instincts on this one ...
Found her!! At last! Tricky one because she is a more minor character in the novel. Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction!!
hmmmmmmmm...... I think I'm in the right novel, but nothing so far! I'm speed reading and entering female names as I come across them but no luck so far!
Well, I'm glad that I helped you but Please stop saying my clues are the Most helpful ones! In the end the "instant death" of Moderator 2 that InspectorGrant prefigured will come to take me And noone will ever get One of my clues again ;)
Well I finally got it. That was definitely the hardest one.
I agree that laurapoirot's clue was the best. My advice would be to not get sidetracked, as I did, by 'modes of transport'. That sent me in completely the wrong direction, although I can understand why it was relevant.
Please accept my apologies, Mr_West. I was not trying to be sarcastic. I do insist though that you should attend that party...

I'm still lost =(
Very funny
But I still want to figure it out. I thought there are Pagans in places like ancient Egypt, but I was wrong. Hmmm..
Mr_westI still havn't the faintest idea. I guess I just havn't read that novel, but the whole thing doesn't make sense: Pagans in war time? I just can't understand that
Well, if you have not read this novel, why don't you just join the birthday party?
I still havn't the faintest idea. I guess I just havn't read that novel, but the whole thing doesn't make sense: Pagans in war time? I just can't understand that
Excellent clue "agathasmykidd"

Now that I am finished this long search I am off to celebrate my mother's birthday. She turned 57 today however I always forget what year it is she was born....
To confirm, the third clue is:
Victim 5 - I am a devoted Pagan with forceful opinions. #agathachristiegame http://goo.gl/wdAS0
Can I remind individuals to type the name in carefully. I type quite quickly and had one letter wrong, so I had disregarded the name since this morning. For me some of the advice we have received is a clue to the book not the character. Victim 5, third clue is all about the character. laughingrunette has the right suggestion as to the type of novel and as to the theme of the book and nikolas has also helped. Having searched the book the individual is mentioned a number of times but do they actually speak? Good Luck

Finally, my journey to saving victim 5 is completed:)
Nikolas and LauraPoirot, thank you for your help. Your clues were the ones ;)
I have finally found Victim #5. It has been the most challenging character yet. Even if you have not read the book, all the official clues and unofficial clues have helped. Thanks for posting Nikolas and GKCfan.
I find it helpful to start with the novels and then move to the short stories when searching for a character. Gook luck for those still searching.
It's the first time that it took me so long to find it!
Phew!!! Finally got it! A rather tricky one. Especially when you haven't read the book. I felt such a relief when I saw the red & black picture!
Good luck to those still searching!!
Follow the hints and you will find it.
LauraPoirot"unknown" is the right word, Nikolas ;)
"unknown" is the right word, Nikolas ;)
Nice work everyone...I am still searching though, thus far this one has gotten the best of me!
Mr_westI'm clueless. Pagan? where in AC's books there is a Pagan except from one which I have already checked?
It's a girl, a pagan, and her novel has allies and (according to inspectorGrant) some kind of mode of transport.
Can anyone give me a clue? I really don't know what to look for
Have you checked all the clues provided?
If you have read the book, then the community has already provided you with more than enough. If you haven't, then you need so many steps to find this one, because what you 're looking for is unknown.
Mr_westIt's a girl, a pagan, and her novel has allies and (according to inspectorGrant) some kind of mode of transport.
Can anyone give me a clue? I really don't know what to look for
Well, think about modes of transport and then look at some of the titles of Dame Agatha's novels.
Can't make it any easier - Moderator has threatened instant death to anybody who makes it too easy!
I'm with you Mr. West...I think everyone saying it isn't a commonly read book has me pursuing crazy ideas. Is it a stand alone novel..or a shorter story included in a compilation? That would certainly help at least where I should be looking. And everyone saying things about "allies' confuses me because so many of her stories are set with war as a background...and that is what "allies" brings to my mind. Sooo confused.

I am stumped...I think I am paranoid and frustrated that I am going in the wrong direction so that is making it even harder.
AgathasmykidOne thing is weird though, even though I don't know victim 5 yet, I feel I may have found a link between the victims.
Wow, good for you!!!
Not plain sailing - a different mode of transport I would have thought!
Congrats to everybody who has got this one out. I thought it was very hard because the character is rather obscure, but this novel is a lovely one. Think about it - what sort of novel has allies in it??
Got it at last!!! This is by far the most difficult yet but once you narrow it down to the right book it's plain sailing. Can't think of a clue that won't give it away.
I've finally got it
!!!! i have been looking at the wrong books..... all i have to say is that its quite an unusual book.... and that laurapoirots clue and the other clues are quite helpful!!!!
good luck everybodyy!!!!
Oh, I've finally got it! Can't believe how silly I've been, rushing to just find a name as opposed to thinking who will fit the clues!
I've had the correct novel from the very beginning as I'm sure many of us did, but, yes, the character is not one of the main ones as we've been used to find so far... So don't leave anyone out! This is one of those unusual AC reads which proves once more that she's a Master Mind
Hats Off!
Gosh, that one was extremely difficult! Just think that I guessed the correct book right from the beginning, but still tried every character except the correct one (!!)
I feel like helping everybody a little bit...
Well... perhaps, if you go to my profile and have a brief look...
Or maybe, I should keep all the knowledge to myself...

InspectorGrant
AgathasmykidOne thing is weird though, even though I don't know victim 5 yet, I feel I may have found a link between the victims.
That is clever, Agathasmykid - I can't see any common link at all as yet - am in a complete fog.
Thanks IG, however I have only found half the victims so far, I could be wrong. Still searching for victim 5 as well.
im tired from searching
its so frustrating not to be able to find a victim
i have been searching and going through some books but i still havent found victim 5
.... i will continue my search later on.....

I can't find it
Hi, thanks for the help and suggestions everyone however I am still searching.....lol, everytime I think I know Agatha Christie's work really well, I get drawn back to reality and realize I don't know her work as well as I thought.
One thing is weird though, even though I don't know victim 5 yet, I feel I may have found a link between the victims.
poirot1999InspectorGrant: How does the third victim's first clue connect to the identity of this victim?
Like GKCfan I do not want to give too much away, but red hair is a motif in this story. I agree that a lot of readers may not have read this particular novel (which is a corker, by the way), but LauraPoirot's last post is a helpful one and so is GKCfan's.
Just look at ALL the clues you have been given (both official and *ahem* unofficial) and if you are still baffled wait for the next clue from Moderator.
InspectorGrant: How does the third victim's first clue connect to the identity of this victim?
Good grief, I found it! This character is WAY more obscure than any of the four previous victims, and it's very likely that a lot of readers have not read this particular story, and even if they have, they may not remember this character. I think a lot of people may need help.
Here are the first two clues:
Victim 5 - I trust I will find the allies I seek.
Victim 5 - I’m not the woman I first seemed.
I know that people are going to need help, but I can't give too much away. It's clear, the victim is a woman (or perhaps a man in drag?). So, which characters in Christie stories need allies to help them with a certain situation? And which of the characters have either disguised themselves or used a pseudonym? Find a list of Christie works and go through it. There are over twenty characters that fit the first two clues, so maybe it's best to wait until the next clue...
Wow, I'm super stuck on this one. Any hints from those that have solved?
No they don't use one book twice. that I'm sure about. and this is a very difficult one because about this character you get to know so less that you don't even remember her! And it's not a boat but a different means of transport that is important in this novel.... Ah but I won't tell more right now... maybe later or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow
dr_sheppard_1LauraPoirot: I also think I have the wrong book.
InspectorGrant: Do you think they would use two victims from the same book at this stage in the game?
No, dr_sheppard, definitely not. It is just that the clue is applicable. I hope that it helps.
LauraPoirot: I also think I have the wrong book.
InspectorGrant: Do you think they would use two victims from the same book at this stage in the game?
im still looking
.... well i will try again.. i hope this time i will be lucky enough to find victim 5
Ha I found her unexpactedly! I always felt that it was this book but never thought really about it because... well I actually don't know why... Now i tried it because I was tired of that messing around with characters!
I suggest that you look at Victim 3 clue no. 1. Hope this helps. Hope I don't get thrown off the boards.
Dr Sheppard, did you try it? Because I think I know which book you mean (I can even be wrong...) but I didn't find the victim there...
Here are two clues based on my thoughts. Can someone suggest if I am right.
1. In clue 1 the word to consider is 'Allies' - this suggests war time, and a sinking boat (not the first one that comes to mind)
2. Part of the book title clue is The - no I can't tell you it's all 'Hush-Hush'.
I am fairly sure this is where the lady is to be found.
Oh that makes things really easier! (much sarcasm)
Well, at least we know it's a woman....
There's a new clue:
Victim 5 - I’m not the woman I first seemed. #agathachristiegame http://goo.gl/wdAS0
I have absolutely no idea...But when I write in this forum that I don't know, most of the times I find the victim a few moments later...Let's hope it works this time
Wow, I am totally stuck on this one. One of the more challenging quotes since the game started.
dr_sheppard_1InspectorGrant, there are a number of members that have the names of all eight characters, which were available by accident, so telling us you have it does not help. The forum is about giving clues for the rest of us to find the character. What clue are you giving us for victim 5?
I am not giving you any clues - you will find it yourselves in due course through the clues which Moderator2 gives you. I merely entered a comment to the effect that this is a difficult one.
Good luck and happy hunting.
We're not sure anyone found all eight by accident - more like persistent name entering until all eight came up! Which couldn't have been much fun.
InspectorGrant, there are a number of members that have the names of all eight characters, which were available by accident, so telling us you have it does not help. The forum is about giving clues for the rest of us to find the character. What clue are you giving us for victim 5?
I have it - and you are quite right, Epsilon - it is tough. This is one of the ones I found by accident a couple of weeks ago.
Well I think I read one or two books where allies are mentioned but I don't know a person who's looking for them.... I'll see through my books today and if I don't find anything... the second clue will probably help
well i have some ideas but they seem to be wrong
.... so i have to wait for the next clues.....
This looks really tough. I need to start thinking now

All four messages from Victim 5 have now been released, they were:
"I trust I will find the allies I seek"
"I'm not the woman I first seemed"
"I am a devoted Pagan with forceful opinions"
"I am a German endocrinologist"
