The Mystery Man is back! And more devious than ever...
The Mystery Man (who could also be a woman, it's a mystery after all) has kidnapped eight characters from the stories of Agatha Christie. Trouble is, we don't know who he's kidnapped!
In an email to the official Christie Community, the Mystery Man has revealed that beginning Thursday, July 7th 2011, he will allow one character per week the chance to speak.
And this is the place to put your theories and ideas to the Christie community, or just to browse to catch-up on all the latest events should you not want to use Twitter to follow the game.

Can't wait for the next one now!

also I have found him urra. Many thanks to LauraPoirot. Your tip of the 25.08. (Anagram of the surname) and a small table helped me on the jumps.
All other next fun! anna
Hurra auch ich habe ihn gefunden. Vielen Dank an LauraPoirot. Ihr Tip vom 25.08. (Anagramm aus den Nachnamen) und eine kleine Tabelle haben mir auf die Sprünge geholfen.
Allen anderen weiter viel Spass!anna
Guys I still don't get it :( I've found all 8 victims, and written the names out, and I have read the clues about not getting 'mixed up' or 'muddled up' but I must be being REALLY dense because I STILL don't get it!
Is it an anagram of the letters of the victims (I'm not particularly good at anagrams, but I can't make anything from the surnames of the victims :S ) or is it a character that would go for these particular victims...or is it something completely different?!
Please help!!!
HURRAAAH! I FOUND HIM!
As usual I complicated it and it was simple. I knew what to do, but I was searching for something different
Thanks everyone, your clues was really helpful.

Here is the final clue of the game!
Victim 8 - My wife Anna didn’t want a divorce. #agathachristiegame http://goo.gl/wdAS0
This should be all you need to get the final victim... IF you've read the book in question.
When this contest is over, will someone please tell those of us who didn't figure out all the victims -- who the victims where and the mystery man also? (it may just be me that doesn't know.)
I enjoy playing, but I've only figured out Victims 1, 2, 3, and 5.
Real life is interfering with my reading and searching. (Though I did find one of the victims while on my way to a funeral...someone else was driving).
Thanks ahead of time.
I FOUND THE MYSTERY MAN!!!! Oh my goodness this has been sooo much fun!! I really will miss it - hope it comes back soon! Thanks sooo much to everyone - I haven't been posting a lot (just moved in to college!) but I certainly have been staying active and reading all the forum posts...I really never could have done it without you all! Thanks so much :)
I think I might watch Psycho too, it's one of my favorite movies. :) Agatha Christie, however, still remains the "Queen" of Crime! ;)
FINALLY FOUND VICTIM 8! Thanks so much, dr_sheppard_1, socks_daventry, inspectorgrant, agathasmykid, pat_september...and everyone really! Now to start to put it all together to find the mystery man...don't even know how to begin!!
Elizabeth, I found Pat_september's Aug. 25 clue very helpful to narrow down the list of books to check:
Pat_septemberjust found victim 8 as well, it's from one of the best known novels one would enjoy reading when one is not a Poirot fan... off to discovering the Mystery Man.. not that i realyy want to as this would mean the end of this game...
ElizabethPoirotI absolutely CANNOTTT figure this last one out!! I appreciate what I think are clues from you all, but I feel sooooo close but I just can't find this last victim!! Any obvious clues I'm missing? The clues officially given are soo broad... :(
If you are looking for Victim Number 8 try Agathasmykid's post of 26/8 at 5:26 am and take note of the avatar used by Agathasmykid as well!
Good luck, Elizabeth
Finally! I found the last victim as well as the Mystery Man. What a great game this was and what a wonderful on-line community! Thank you to all who gave great unofficial clues, I don't think I could have done it without your help.
To those who are still looking for the Mystery Man, I found the most helpful hints were from LauraPoirot and Mr.West. on Aug. 25th. Good Luck everyone! I truly hope they do this again, prize or no prize...
YEAH!!!!!!! FOUND EVERYONE! This has been really fun. Thank you for all those wonderful clues, couldn't have done it without them.
til next year~~

Pat_septemberInspectorGrantAgathasmykidI want to reward myself for completeing the game so am going to relax and watch a murder mystery this evening. I have speant so much time with Christie's works during this game that I am going to watch something different tonight; Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Not a traditional murder mystery per se, however it seems a good choice for tonight.
Happy Hunting!
the mystery man must have influenced you into choosing this peculiar movie
i must say that the actor I'm thinking of did carried a certain "Hitchcock'ian" aura with him throughout at least some of his other roles... i would say.
He certainly did, Pat! All those goings-on in his old home provided excellent training for some later events
Later events such as working with a former James Bond?..lol
Here is the third clue for Victim 8:
Victim 8 - There is a lot of training in my job. http://t.co/1vyzILW
I found victim 8 and the Mystery Man is no longer a mystery. This has been fun and I owe much thanks to all of you who have given additional clues. I have to say this has been the nicest and friendliest forum I have ever come across on the internet.
Bring on the next game!

Congratulations to everybody who discovered the Mystery Man's true identity!
It's been great interacting on this forum with so many people virtually from all over the world.. wonderful seeing the "old gang", how the Inspector so well put it, the last year's players. The spirit of friendship on ths forum has been amazing, wonderful to experience, it has been a real pleasure meeting all of you :)
Let's hope it will take less than a year untill we will "meet" eachother again, on agathachristie.com. Well, Moderator?
Who is for a NEW Mystery Man Game, say "I"

Victim 8: This family really trusts me. http://t.co/1vyzILW
Finally got Victim 8 and the Mystery Man! What a fantastic summer pastime. Good luck to everyone, and scroll back through the forum if you need hints--some real jems.
First time to play this game (from across the pond) and thoroughly enjoyed it! For those needing help with Victim 8, would suggest vfrancese's clue from Friday. For the Mystery Man, would suggest Laura Poirot's post from the 25th as most helpful. Good Luck!
found victim 8 and mystry man as well

It does feel flat when a game is over - it is fun socialising in the forums and the hints are always very welcome indeed. I hope that another game is organised soon - it livens up the site and the interaction with other Christie fans is such fun.
I think Psycho is an extremely good choice, Agathasmykid
- hope you enjoy Norman Bates' behaviour in the shower and then the later scenes with his dear old Mum. Now there's a train of thought worth investigating .....
Good luck, everybody!
got victims 7 & 8 tonight and I've sat for AGGGGES trying to puzzle it out!! I did enter the name but spelt it wrong. I could have kicked myself, especially as another poster said they did the same!!!
I'm sorry this game has come to an end I've really enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone for all the help and good luck!
GKCfanThere hasn't been an official announcement yet, but since there are three more clues to go, I'd say that we have until this coming Wednesday at least.
Hmm, that's what I thought. Okay, thanks!

Okay, so I have a quick question. Does anybody know when the Mystery Man game officially closes? Obviously after all the clues are given out for victim 8, but how much time after that do people have to submit their e-mails? Just curious :)
Mystery Person found! Wow, like others have said, the victory is bittersweet! I too will miss the playing, the hinting, the socializing with others. It went by really fast. I hope there is an opportunity, like last year, to give feedback as I too would like the game to go longer. Thanks to everyone who helped out with the clever hints and clues placed in their posts, those were just as fun as the official clues given. Also, very nice to see so many people who like to help others!! Special thanks to Laurapoirot, Pat, InspectorGrant, Socks, ChristieGreece, SpearmintHippo, Ocean and there were many more members whose names I can't think of right now that helped along the way.
To those still hunting for Victim 8, there are enough hints in the posts to help out, and three more official clues to go! For those still hunting for the person responsible for all of these victims, I am sure it will come to you.

Solving the clue for Victim 8 was easy for me based on the first clue!! (It's easy for me to get hold of poison) But I am surprised how I arrived at the name of the Mystery Man. I just followed the instructions we had been given.
To find out if you've guessed right, simply type the surname of the Mystery Man at the end of the URL you've been using throughout the game.
Just like all great Agatha Christie stories you have to wait until the last clue to solve the game.
InspectorG, and vfrance, you are both welcome, wasn't sure if my post would be confusing or not. I am still looking for mysteryman, however am trying to do it without any hints (lol for now anyway.)
Found both of them. I did take my time following the train of my though, as many of you suggested me in the forum's posts. As many of you posti helpe me, I just want to say thank you toAgathasmykid for giving me a clue victim 8, as for Laura Poirot and Pat_September.
Finaly I tried not get mix up by all the clues
and the mystery man came up. So excited to have solved the game this year. Now I feel a bit lonely that the game is over, just like when finishing a good book of miss marple or any other of Agatha.
That's good to know, InspectorGrant. Congratulations!
Vivi_MM, it might help to write down all the victims' names that we typed in throughout the game. Maybe you'll see what the solution is without getting mixed up. Then you should follow that train of thought until you get the Mystery Man's name. Once again, let me express my best wishes to everyone who's still playing!
Hi! im really lost concerning the identity of the Mystery man, could you please give me some more clues? :-) maybe not about the Mystery man himself but about the method to link the 8 victims?!?!
SocksDaventryivi21, I gave a clue in my last post. I hope it'll help.
I saw your clue, Socks - many thanks, it helped
..
Easy Victim 8. :)
Found the Mystery Man as well. :D
ivi21, I gave a clue in my last post. I hope it'll help.
I still can´t find the Mysteriou Man, but I won´t give up!
The victims haven´t helped yet. Maybe it´s because of that hot weather. My brain doesn´t function properly
And congratulation to everyone who found him!
christie_greeceI found the mystery man! When I saw that I was right I first thought: Yes! I found it!! but then I thought: Oh no...
the game is over
.
Thank you all for your help. I really like the fact that even thought we have never met each other we work as a team. I really don't mind if I'm not the one to win the books, because I already feel winner.
Good luck to everyone
I agree about the books, christiegreece (although of course, I would be DELIGHTED to win!). I think doing the game is just as big of a "reward." In fact, perhaps we could persuade them to create some of these games just for fun, with or without a reward! (Dear moderator, are you listening?) Good luck to you all!
At long last! I found the last victim and the Mystery Man! What fun the game was! Hope there will be another soon. Thank you all for your help and company here in the Christie community. I think we all have already won something special.
Good luck to everyone!
Finally found the Mystery Man!! Thanks a lot to everyone, all your clues were so helpful, i couldn't have done it without you (especially LauraPoirot, you are a genius!).
Hope there's a new Mytery Man game soon! Pleasure to play with you all Christie's fans
Found the Mystery Man! Got bogged down so had a look at an episode of Inspector Morse and then finally my train of thought became clearer. The Insp. Morse remark is not a hidden clue, but I found that knowing the last victim was a big help.
Congrats Christie Greece and everybody else - good luck in the draw.
Guys I still want to Write here though I'm already done with this Game but it's so nice to Play and Write with all of you! Congrats Christie Greece and all the others who successfully finished the Game. I'm on my Way to Bournemouth- England At the Moment ;) but Not with "Christies Favourite means of Transport" but by Bus. Regards my Friends!

Thank you LauraPoirot!!!
I finally found the 8th victim!!! However I have no idea about the mystery man...But now the diffficult part is over
i still havent found the identity of the mystery man... hopefully i will find him/her soon..... i will continue my search...
Those who are still trying to figure out the Mystery Man's name: don't give up, even though you might get mixed up initially.
Good luck!
Pat, Agathasmykid, Ocean got it at last, thanks for your help - now will have to try and work out who the Mystery Man is. Congrats to all those who have worked out the whole thing!
I am always so sorry when the end of these games is in sight - it is so much fun playing
..
Pat, Ocean, thanks very much! Lol, I have no idea how I overlooked that book. What is hilarious, as you can tell by my avatar, is that I love books with this type of transport as part of the setting!
However for those that may have not read this book it still maybe a tough one to find...in fact I think it would take both Margaret Rutherford and Joan Hickson to solve it! ;)
Okay, I am going to take a short break, and begin the search for the person responsbile for all this!
OMGOSH I found the mystery man's true identity!!!! It took me forever (had some stuff backwards lol). This has been so much fun. Thanks so much to all of you guys for helping me and everyone else on here too :D
AgathasmykidWow, now I feel like i have fallen behind. Great work everyone. I can't believe some have completed the whole game, very impressive! Lol, yes, I am still searching, however hope to catch up soon.
just think of it this way: you can still enjoy the game!
the 8th victim, as it's been said in the forum, must be some medicl practitioner if it can easily get hold of the poison... and then also keep in mind Agatha's favorite means of transport - that's been featured in her novels... hope this helps! enjoy the search :)
Got them both! What a great game! I have really enjoyed this.
AgathasmykidWow, now I feel like i have fallen behind. Great work everyone. I can't believe some have completed the whole game, very impressive! Lol, yes, I am still searching, however hope to catch up soon.
I feel the same! None of my guesses for victim 8 have been correct :(
Wait, I got it! It just takes a little time. Now to figure out the mystery man!
Wow, now I feel like i have fallen behind. Great work everyone. I can't believe some have completed the whole game, very impressive! Lol, yes, I am still searching, however hope to catch up soon.
I have solved the Mystery Man. It is a bitter sweet ending. I have had so much fun playing this game. Thank you everyone for the helpful "unofficial" clues along the way. I'm sure I wouldn't have made it this far without your help. Looking forward to next year's game. Good luck to everyone else.
Got the Mystery Man! What fun this game was! In particular, I enjoyed reading through these forums for help & comradery! Thanks to everyone for all the input...I would never had recalled all these characters from memory!
Ok, I'm feeling a bit silly now that I've discovered the mystery man's identity. It was staring me in the face the whole time! Sad that's it's over now, but it's been fun! Hope to see some of you back on the boards next year...(or whenever they do this again!)
Yes, found the 8th victim and the mystery man as well!
It was great fun!
Found the Mystery Man!!! YEAH!! It was a great game and I had such fun...hate to see it end.
Found #8! That was actually much easier than I thought...I expected the last victim to be much tougher for some reason. Thanks to Pat_september in particular for helping me narrow down so quickly.
I'm afraid I'm beyond all help on the mystery man, however. I can't believe how quickly some of you are finding him/her!
Found #8...now to think of the Mystery Man.
Got it!! Also found out who the mystery man is!!! Victim 8 is very distinctive from the back!
I haven't even started looking or trying for #8 ...yet. But seeing as how I did not play the game last year, I have no idea what the next move would be once I find #8. Do we await a clue or something we are to do next?
Sorry LauraPoirot I should of given clues but I was at work. That was real fun. me and my sis(mostly sis) played it.
Good game, everyone. Thanks to those who have given excellent clues.
If you haven't found Victim 8 yet, don't give up – just follow your train of thought to its logical conclusion. And once you've freed all the victims, it'll be easy to figure out the Mystery Man – just don't get muddled up. Good luck!
Found the mystery man! WOHO!
Fun game!
I AM REALLY GLAD THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET TILL THE END OF THIS EXCITING GAME AND I AM SURE I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT EVERYBODY'S HELP IN THIS FORUM. A MONTH AGO -BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME- I WAS TALKING TO A FRIEND OF MINE AND I WAS CONVINCED THAT EVEN IF I FOUND 4 VICTIMS -AT THE MOST- I SHOULD BE REALLY GRATEFUL. AND NOW IT'S ALL OVER. NOW THE FACT THAT ONE OF US WINS THE PRICE IS A MATTER OF TIME AND PURE LUCK AND THE FACT THAT I HAVE SOLVED THE MYSTERY-FIGURE-GAME OF 2011, MAKES ME FEEL A WINNER EVEN IF I DON'T WIN THESE BOOKS.
FINALLY I WOULD LIKE TO WISH GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY STILL SEARCHING, AND SAY THANK'S TOO MY NEW FRIENDS IN THIS FORUM
.
i must say, the character chosen really fits the Mystery Man's devious personality!
oh
just discovered the true identity of the Mystery Man... the last victim really points it out.
but i'm not happy, not happy at all, this Mystery Man edition has reached its END...
it went by too quick! last year's one lasted longer, although wecomplained about all the waiting in between the clues...
Moderator, when will the NEXT Mystery Man Game begin? maybe 'round Dame Agatha Christie's Birthday? hmm?
Yeah! I have found Victim #8. I kept coming back to this book when searching for other victims. Now, I just have to figure out who the Mystery Man is.
just found victim 8 as well, it's from one of the best known novels one would enjoy reading when one is not a Poirot fan... off to discovering the Mystery Man.. not that i realyy want to as this would mean the end of this game...
found victim 8, now got to figure who the mystery man is
You're Welcome, freezer! i thought you had it almost As you wrote that you had a latter forgotten:) Congrats to all who Found him. Now it will Be only luck.... Much of it to all of you! And thank you Nikolas! I'm Feeling honoured;) even If I won't win the books it was much fun playing (and helping) with all of you!
It has been a great game!
Congratulations to all those who have solved the mystery, especially to LauraPoirot who has helped everyone throughout the game, and is still helping right until the very last minute! She makes a really deserving winner, imho.
(and, yes, an "A" too much should not be a problem, really...)

Congrats to those who managed to find victim 8 AND the dreadful Mystery Man
already. I am still searching
just found victim 8.... but i still dont know who the mystery man is... well i guess i need to search and think carefully. Congratulations to everyone who has solved the Mystery Man.
Still searching, but congratulations to everyone who has solved the Mystery Man. I'm so excitited to solve this.
I found the Mystery Man as well! I had a few ideas about how to find the identity, and one of them was right!!!
yes i found mystery man
got it i found mystery man
OH I'VE BEEN SO STUPID BUT GOT IT AT LAST THANK YOU LAURA POIROT!!!!
Ohh I'm so excited! I hope they will continue with the Mystery Man next year too, It's such a wonderful competition
Yes he is,Mr West. Oh seems I was too late... =) Congrats! Now we are 3.
freezer If there was an "A" too much you are probably right. hope I didn't tell to much.
OMG! I found him/her! I found the mystery man!
LettylotteFound the mystery man. Woop woop
congratulation!
the mystery man is the murderer in the book in which he appeared right?
Congrats again to those who manage to find the victim so quickly. I am still searching. Can't believe the game is almost over.
Huh my Hearts skipping a beat! I FOUND HIM! The Mystery Man!
Ha now I've got it! Christie! It isn't as difficult as you think! and I saw in your list that you HAVE read it. the actual murder wasn't one with poison. but the second one. I'm sorry I wish I could tell you more but you know the rules... =( Regards
Yes, you can find this one with little patience.
I'm tired of searching. I'm afraid I haven't read this book. I'll wait for the next clues. Good luck to everyone
See you tomorrow
thank you I just wanted to know it. But since I havn't got the last victim I'm far from finding the mystery man. But Congratulations with a bit luck you will win all the novels!
LauraPoirotLettylotte have you done it the same way like checking the victims? typing the name behind the internet address??
Yes. www.agathachristie.com/Capital letter for surname.
Lettylotte have you done it the same way like checking the victims? typing the name behind the internet address??
Found the mystery man. Woop woop
WELL, I TRIED TO CONSTUCT ANAGRAMS USING THE FIRST LETTER FROM EACH VICTIMS SURNAME. YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT IF I TOLD YOU THAT I MANAGED TO CONSTRUCT THE NAME OF A KILLER IN ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS AGATHA CHRISTIE NOVELS BUT AT THE LAST MOMENT I SAW THAT THERE WAS A REMAINING LETTER THAT I HAD FORGOT. I WAS WRONG AGAIN. THERE MUST BE A COMMON DENOMINATOR I AM NOT ABLE TO SEE
.
Got it. Now who is the mystory man/woman?
LauraPoirotAh Mr West I almost forgot to say: There must be a link between all the victims that lead us to the murderer. For example if they would have names from a to h it would be the murderer from The ABC murders. Well at least I understood it like that...
I also tried anagram but nothing came out of it. Maybe this last name will show us the way we should think...
christie_greeceMy first thought was that this person is a woman. Usually women poison their victims. And something else. This person must be a doctor or, more likely, a nurse, so that she (or he) can easily get hold of poison.
But I don't have a clear idea of this person. I'll search all the books where poison was used.
Wish me luck
I've got the same problem =)
Mr West and Freezer thank you I will not panic anymore. I'm just very impacient... If many people find it but not me I think I have to find it too and soon. but actually there will be three further clues and so I'll tell me that I have time and if I don't find it right now then maybe tomorrow or in three days ;)
Ah Mr West I almost forgot to say: There must be a link between all the victims that lead us to the murderer. For example if they would have names from a to h it would be the murderer from The ABC murders. Well at least I understood it like that...
Wow freezer... I hope that won't happen to my idea.... I wish you luck that you soon find something that fits!
I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED. MY SUSPICIONS CONCERNING THE IDENTITY OF THE MYSTERY MAN SEEM TO BE WRONG. NOW THAT I HAVE ALSO FOUND VICTIM 8 EVERYTHING CHANGES AND I AM REALLY CLUELESS. NO MATTER HOW DEEP I "DIG" THESE 8 VICTIMS DON'T HELP ME AT ALL.
i had some characters in mind but they proved to be the wrong ones as i havent yet found victim 8
..... 80% of christie's characters have used poison to murder someone without being caught... so most probably i will wait for the second clue
My first thought was that this person is a woman. Usually women poison their victims. And something else. This person must be a doctor or, more likely, a nurse, so that she (or he) can easily get hold of poison.
But I don't have a clear idea of this person. I'll search all the books where poison was used.
Wish me luck
Don't worry Laura, you will get that very soon (:
By the way, now that we have all 8 victims, how do they help us to find the mystery man?
LauraPoirot,
don't panic. Just think of somebody who could have used poison to kill somebody without being suspected.
seems to be simple this time. But me I'm still searching, still in the dark.... anyone a hint for me? please!
got it! my second thought
ACCORDING TO DESCRIPTIONS I HAVE HEARD CONCERNING THE LAST YEARS MYSTERY MAN GAME, THE PLAYERS KNEW THAT THE MYSTERY MAN WAS A MURDERER FROM A BOOK. THEY WERE SEEKING FOR CLUES AND THEY WERE JUST ELIMINATING KILLERS ONE BY ONE.IS IT LIKE THAT THIS YEAR TOO? I MEAN IS (S)HE GOING TO BE A KILLER OR IS (S)HE GOING BE A SIMPLE CHARACTER?
Got it.
Got it! The easiest one so far in my opinion.
GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
. NOW THAT I HAVE FREED ALL THE 8 VICTIMS I HAVE TO WORK REALLY HARD
.
Hmmm.. Posion? so that victim is in a position in which he can get hold of poison, maybe it's his job, or perheps hobby...
I have a few possible characters that I'm going to try, wish me luck!
Victim 8 - It’s easy for me to get hold of poison. #agathachristiegame
DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHICH IS THE FIRST CLUE THE 8th VICTIM HAS GIVEN TO US?
I think in this way sy can find the charcter only after the victims's clue. So if sy type a name, it will be correct if (s)he type the actual victim's name. So nobody can find now the 8th or 6th victim, just the 2nd, and then the 3rd, etc...
If there will be another game next year, you can make it a bit harder by always activated the actual victim's name. E.g. the 2nd will be visible when the 1st clue is added.
Am I right? (sorry for my English)
Any way it is a great game! :)
Our apologies! We have now deactivated any victims not in play, and have also named them Victim 1, 2, 3, etc so you know who you've found.
SilverTyneFor about the third time, it was an ACCIDENT!

i've also got a feeling that it's meant to be confusing..
otherwise "they"
would have made the victim's identities available as we go allong... easy pesy work, isn't it?
i for one haven't found any "accidental" victims so far.
well, let's stick together and keep our with about us..
SilverTyneYes - more like Lieutenant Colombo than Agatha!
Good one!
I have also now found two victims for this clue....maybe the point is to mess with us and there turns out to be a plot twist later?
the mess is this is the agatha christie homepage! Sorry here it's a quater past ten and tomorrow I've got to stand up very early because I'll go on a journey. I'll see if there are any computers in my hotel. If not have a nice week I'll be back on friday! Good Night (ps I'm listening to murder in the orient express audio book to fall into sleep=))
Yes - more like Lieutenant Colombo than Agatha!
yes maybe it'll be easier when I've got the names first. It's like you have a murderer before you have the proof than it's easier to proof that you're right =)
You will have to wait for the clues to come up and then match them to the names that you have as victims.
Yes and it's also confusing! I also found some victims and now I'm not sure which of them fit to which clues... ;)
I agree LP. It has spoilt the fun a little.
For the next years game (if there'll be one as I hope) is it possible that the sites aren't reachable until the clues are given? would be better for everyone who plays without "accidents".
For about the third time, it was an ACCIDENT!
