Famous Fans on Christie
Join us at The Southbank Centre for a celebration of Agatha Christie.
On the 16th September best-selling authors Val McDermid, Kate Mosse and Jasper Fforde will be discussing Agatha Christie’s work in a panel chaired by Simon Brett.
Val McDermid, best-selling author of the Dr Tony Hill crime series, is a lifelong Christie fan. Winner of the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel of the Year, Val has said that "the quickness of Christie’s hand still continues to deceive."
Val will be joined by Kate Mosse, best-selling author of The Labyrinth. Most recently Kate has published Sepulchre to critical acclaim. She has often spoken of her love of Christie and claims to, “read all of Agatha Christie on a rotating basis. She was a revolutionary writer; one of the first to make the detective story accessible, with clean, easy prose.” Kate Mosse is firmly established as a Christie expert and kindly wrote the introduction to The Complete Miss Marple – our World Record breaking book, of over 4,000 pages.
Best-selling author Jasper Fforde completes the panel. Author of the Thursday Next novels, these most famously include The Eyre Affair, his critically acclaimed, playful exploration of literature.
The authors will debate Christie’s work, share their favourite extracts from her novels and take questions from the audience. Chaired by Simon Brett, author of the Charles Paris crime novels, and Christie expert, the evening will prove very special indeed.
If you would like to attend, tickets can be purchased online from The Southbank Centre. THIS EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT. We will be providing a report on the blog later this week.
The Southbank Centre will also be hosting a special Book Club night in celebration of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. 2009 marks the 75th anniversary of the novel and fans are invited to attend the discussion.
