Hello Christie fans!
I’ve been lucky enough to bag a guest spot on the blog to tell you about all the exciting things happening during this year’s Agatha Christie Festival in Torquay and its surroundings. The festival will run from Sunday 11th to Sunday 18th September and as per usual there will be plenty of murder, mystery and mayhem on the English Riviera.
Everything is falling into place now, the celebs are lining up (this year we are welcoming Mathew Prichard, author John Curran, actor Jonathan Cecil - who played Hastings opposite Peter Ustinov’s Poirot – and Monsieur Poirot himself - at least, the official lookalike!), the bunting for fêtes is going up, the scones are being prepared for the tea dances and we’re dusting off our vintage clothing.
We’re really pleased to announce that Mathew will be presenting an exclusive lecture on The Art Of Adapting Agatha Christie on Christie’s birthday, 15th September. He’ll be joined by a panel of experts and will be playing excerpts from certain Christie productions over the years. For those who sadly can’t make it down to the festival, the event will be filmed and then available to view on YouTube the following day. Later that evening (15th) there will be a firework display in honour of the Queen of Crime.
We’re also running two big competitions this year for fab prizes: the first is up and running already and will be drawn before the festival. This is to win a copy of the biggest book in the world, a leather bound tome of the complete Miss Marple novels worth £1000. It’s being run in conjunction with Great British Life click here for more details.
The other official competition will run during the festival –it’s a hunt to find the 26 hidden letters of the alphabet across the English Riviera, in recognition of the 75th anniversary of The ABC Murders. The prize is a trip on the Orient Express!
There is so much more going on over the week on Agatha Christie’s Riviera. Check out the programme in the events section and click here to find plenty of places to stay, and inspiration for other things to do during your visit.
We look forward to welcoming you in September!

Sounds Fantastic. The Orient Express Sound simply magnificent.
Sad to hear the passing of Jonathan Cecil. He was a great foil for Peter Ustinov's Poirot and a great charactor actor. R.I.P.

So sad! going to England tomorrow but be back in Germany already at the 4th! and I also won't come to Torquay =( but I wanted to see Mathew Prichard and The lookalike of Poirot and all the other great people and things. maybe next year.

Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear.
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help ...
When the thoroughly unpleasant Lucius Protheroe is found dead, there is no shortage of suspects with a motive for murder ...
