When Poirot's car breaks down, the mechanic who comes to fix it has a request of his own. He has been pining for a beautiful maid, with grace of a young deer, and with the Arcadian Deer of his namesake in mind, Poirot agrees to look for her. More of a love story than a traditional mystery, Poirot's investigation takes him from a sleepy English village across Europe.
The Arcadian Deer was published in 1940 in the UK in Strand Magazine and in the US in This Week under the title Vanishing Lady. It was included in the collection The Labours of Hercules in 1947, which was adapted for TV in 2013, as part of the final series of Agatha Christie's Poirot.
