Kathy Kiera Clarke

SYBIL STAMFORDIS, who lives with Thryza and Bella at The Pale Horse. Sybil has an un-nerving ability to read people’s ugliest thoughts and their strangest desires.

Born in Belfast, Kathy is a founder member of Marrillac Theatre Company. Theatre credits include Jekyll and Hyde, Riders to the Sea, Damaged Goods and Clara Pettacci in Summit Conference at Glasgow Citizens Theatre. Other work includes Borders of Paradise at the Palace Theatre, Watford, Leonora D’este in Torquato Tasso at the Lyceum, Edinburgh, Mary in Once A Catholic, Rosemary in Factory Girls at the Tricycle Theatre, London, Brilliant Traces, Woman and Scarecrow, Scarbrough, Low Level Panic, The Coronation Voyage and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth for Prime Cut Productions at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. Earlier this year Kathy could be seen playing Dorine in Tartuffe at the Royal National Theatre.

Kathy was nominated for the RNT/Ian Charleson Awards Best Actress for the title role of Medea for The Glasgow Citizens Theatre. She played Connie in Scenes from the Big Picture at the Royal National Theatre and Neasa in Conor McPherson’s Shining City at London’s Royal Court Theatre. She won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Ophelia in The Abbey Theatre Dublin and Lyric Belfast’s production of Hamlet. Most recently, she has appeared in Rough Magic’s productions of The Bonfire, Attempts on her Life, Don Carlos and Dream of Autumn, Roberto Zucco for Bedrock Productions, The Recruiting Officer and Heartbreak House at the Abbey Theatre, Pentecost & Spokesong at the Lyric Theatre Belfast and Faith Healer at the Bristol Old Vic and the Hong Kong International Arts Festival.

Television work includes Flash McVeigh, Chandler & Co, Jack Rosenthal’s Eskimo Day, Anna La Page in the series Take a Girl Like You, all for The BBC. She played Bernadette in the series Head Over Heels for Carlton, Una in Pulling Moves, Elizabeth Gibson in Omagh and Jennifer Gaghan in Silent Witness, all for the BBC, Sinead in the mini-series Proof 2, Marlene in Ice Cream Girls for ITV and Aunt Sarah in Channel 4’s award winning hit comedy show Derry Girls.

Film work includes Last Legs directed by Amy Jenkins, Hard Nut, Mad About Harry, Cherry Bomb, The Most Fertile Man in Ireland, and was nominated “Best Actress” at the Irish Film & TV Awards 2003 for her role in Paul Greengrass’ Bloody Sunday. She played the leading role of Nicola in Solid Air, and Agnes in Small Engine Repair directed by Niall Heery. She can next be seen as Katie Hughes in feature film A Bend in the River.
