Agatha Christie's Poirot receives Emmy Nomination

Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot’s Last Case, produced by ITV Studios for Agatha Christie Limited, received a Primetime Emmy® Award nomination at yesterday’s nominations announcement ceremony in L.A; its first nomination in the 25-year history of the beloved series.

The script was adapted for television by the late, critically acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot, executive produced by Damian Timmer and Michelle Buck for ITV Studios and Mathew Prichard and Hilary Strong for Agatha Christie Limited. The film was first screened on 13th November, 2013 on ITV, and streamed on RLJ Entertainment Inc’s US subscription channel, Acorn TV on 25th August, 2014.

To receive such recognition, not only for her original work but that of the remarkable David Suchet, the supporting cast and crew, that have taken her Poirot series to the screen is such a tremendous honour."

For the last 25 years, David Suchet has been synonymous with the brilliant Belgian detective, and with Curtain, Poirot’s Last Case, he completed the unsurpassed feat of portraying Agatha Christie’s iconic sleuth in all 70 Poirot stories. Curtain takes place in post-war 1940s England, where an ailing Poirot reunites with Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) at Styles, the place where they solved their first murder thirty years prior. Knowing that one of the guests is a killer Poirot tries to prevent another murder, understanding that his own death is nearing.

Actor David Suchet added, ‘I am so very thrilled that CURTAIN has been recognised for an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Television Movie category. It is a fitting tribute to the whole team involved in the making of the TV film.’

This marks a very busy time for Agatha Christie Productions with two major new television dramas series about to launch and in production. Agatha Christie’s Partners In Crime begins this month on BBC ONE (July 26, 2015, 9pm) and stars David Walliams and Jessica Raine. This brand new adaptation is produced by Endor Productions in partnership with Agatha Christie Productions. The Secret Adversary is written by award-winning author, playwright and director Zinnie Harris and the second story, N or M?, is written by Claire Wilson. The series is directed by Edward Hall, (Downton Abbey, Restless).

A major television adaptation of And Then There Were None began filming in the U.K. this week starring Aidan Turner, Charles Dance, Douglas Booth, Maeve Dermody, Miranda Richardson, Toby Stephens, Anna Maxwell Martin and Sam Neill. Christie’s most successful work and one of the best-selling crime novels of all time is adapted by Sarah Phelps (Great Expectations) and produced by Mammoth Screen (Poldark) in partnership with Agatha Christie Productions.

These two major new BBC One dramas are just part of an exciting slate of projects in development as Agatha Christie Limited takes Christie to a new generation across a range of film, literature, theatre, television and multi-media platforms.

Initiatives include a recently announced feature film (a star-studded re-make of Murder on the Orient Express from Fox produced by Ridley Scott, Mark Gordon and Simon Kinberg); Hidden Object tablet games, such as the 2013 release of Dead Man’s Folly that has seen some 200,000 downloads in the first few weeks of release and an average rating of 4.5 stars; and forthcoming announcements for West End theatre.
