Agatha Christie Festival Programme Revealed

The full programme for the 2017 International Agatha Christie Festival has been revealed. Inspired by the ingenuity and curiosity of the Queen of Crime, this year the festival is celebrating creativity through an expansive programme of arts and culture including plenty of Agatha Christie-focused events.

The five day September festival takes place bi-ennially in Christie’s hometown, Torquay. This year’s programming includes: Agatha Christie biographer Janet Morgan discussing the process of recording the incredible life of the Queen of Crime; Christie expert and lifelong fan Dr John Curran’s famous Mystery Film Night; local historian John Risdon leading a dawn walk to Christie’s former holiday home, Greenway House and Garden; and a mystery investigation on the pitch and putt.

Author of Agatha Christie: A Life in Theatre, Julius Green, will host an event focusing on Agatha Christie the playwright, looking at how she adapted her novels for the theatre, confronting the challenges she faced in her own and others stage adaptations, whilst also reflecting on how Christie remains one of the most radical stage adaptors of all time. Also not to be missed is Mark Aldridge’s insightful talk on the history of Agatha Christie’s stories on screen, where he shares Christie’s own thoughts on certain adaptations and looks back at the variation of screen adaptations to date.

There is also a wealth of cultural programming inspired by Christie’s life and interests taking place, including audiences with middle eastern writers, innovative musical productions, theatre and garden explorations.
