A redhead at a party informs the guests that she has obtained a fabulous apartment at a ridiculously low rent. Poirot, however, smells a rat. He takes an apartment in the same building, and lies in wait. Will his suspicions prove well-founded?
The story was first published as a book in the collection Poirot Investigates, 1924, by Bodley Head. The story was adapted for the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot in 1990, starring David Suchet, and like many of the other early episodes, included the characters of Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon, regardless of whether or not they appeared in the original text. In 2004 it was adapted for the Japanese anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives, and retitled The Riddle of the Cheap Flat. The show saw Poirot teaming up with Miss Marple's great niece.
