More about this story

Miss Marple knows a thing or two about maids and her interest is immediately piqued when the Skinner sisters sack one for theft and replace her only to find that the items keep on disappearing. Strange behaviour indeed...

Once again Miss Marple comes to the aid of Inspector Slack in this story originally published in 1942 (UK). In Strand Magazine it was titled The Perfect Maid and in Chicago Sunday Tribune it was called The Maid Who Disappeared. It was included in the collections Three Blind Mice and Other Stories (US) in 1950 and later in Miss Marple's Final Cases (UK) in 1979.

It was also adapted for Japanese TV in the anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives in 2004, which had Poirot meeting Miss Marple's great niece and solving crimes together. The episode was called The Faultless Maid.
